U.S. Route 83 (US 83) is a major north–south United States Numbered Highway that extends 1,885 miles (3,034 km) in the central United States. [2] Only four other north–south routes are longer: US 1 , US 41 , US 59 , and US 87 , while US 83 follows a straighter north-south path than all of these.
Southbound US 83 in Fort Pierre. U.S. Highway 83, part of the United States Numbered Highway System, runs from the Mexican border in Brownsville, Texas, to the Canadian border near Westhope, North Dakota. In the state of South Dakota, it runs from Olsonville to Herreid by way of Mission, Murdo, and Gettysburg.
It uses the same G series block found in many other Suzuki models and so it is a popular conversion into the Suzuki Sierra/Samurai, which uses either a G13A (85-88) or G13BA (88.5-98). This allows the engine to fit into the engine bay simply as engine and gearbox mounts are identical and both engines are mounted north–south.
Route 83 is a 35.65-mile-long (57.37 km) north–south state highway in the Greater Hartford and Greater Springfield areas of the U.S. states of Connecticut and Massachusetts. It serves as the main north–south artery for the towns of Manchester, Vernon, Ellington, and Somers, and continues through East Longmeadow center into downtown Springfield.

State Highway 83 was authorized in 1933 and completely paved by 1953. [2]At one time, Highway 83 had continued farther west. The section of present-day State Highway 68 between U.S. Highway 169 (at Mankato) and State Highway 15 (immediately south of New Ulm) was originally designated Highway 83 as well between 1934 and 1963.
