Christian Gordon Cameron (born August 16, 1962), also known as Miles Cameron and Gordon Kent (used for those novels written with his father, author Kenneth Cameron), is a Canadian novelist. He was educated and trained as both a historian and a former career officer in the US Navy .
The series spans approximately eight years in the life of its main protagonist, a writer named Miles. At the beginning of Sideways, Miles is a mostly unsuccessful screenwriter and functioning alcoholic who is taking his best friend Jack, a successful TV director, on a trip to California's wine country the week before the latter's wedding.
The novel is the story of two friends, Miles and Jack, who take a road trip to the Santa Ynez Valley AVA a week before Jack plans to marry. Miles is a recently divorced wine aficionado who struggles to publish his novels. Jack is a charismatic television director who is determined to engage in a short affair before his marriage.
