SciTech SNAP (System Neutral Access Protocol) is an operating system portable, dynamically loadable, native-size 32-bit/64-bit device driver architecture. SciTech SNAP defines the architecture for loading an operating system neutral binary device driver for any type of hardware device, be it a graphics controller, audio controller, SCSI controller or network controller.
Adaptec also developed generic SCSI disk and CD-ROM drivers for DOS (ASPICD.SYS and ASPIDISK.SYS). [3]: 60–61 At least a couple of other programming interfaces for SCSI device drivers competed with ASPI in the early 1990s, including CAM (Common Access Method), developed by Apple; and Layered Device Driver Architecture, developed by Microsoft.
SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD) is a proprietary device driver and application programming interface (API) that provides a method of access to SCSI storage devices. Originally developed in 2004 by Duplex Secure Ltd., it is now owned and maintained by Disc Soft Ltd., [ 1 ] the developer of Daemon Tools .
A comparative performance review by VR-Zone in August 2011, concluded that only the NEC/Renesas chips had UAS working drivers. [5] The same Renesas UAS driver (for Windows) also works with AMD's A70M and A75 Fusion Controller Hubs, [6] the USB part of which was co-developed by AMD and Renesas. [7]
Solaris descriptions of commonly used device drivers: fas: Fast/wide SCSI controller; hme: Fast (10/100 Mbit/s) Ethernet; isp: Differential SCSI controllers and the SunSwift card; glm: (Gigabaud Link Module [13]) UltraSCSI controllers; scsi: Small Computer Serial Interface (SCSI) devices; sf: soc+ or social Fiber Channel Arbitrated Loop (FCAL)

The storage port drivers provide an interface for Win32 applications to send SCSI Command Descriptor Block (CDB) messages to SCSI devices. The interfaces are IOCTL_SCSI_PASS_THROUGH and IOCTL_SCSI_PASS_THROUGH_DIRECT. Applications can build a pass-through request and send it to the device by using this IOCTL.
SCST does not only support multiple SCSI protocols (iSCSI, FC, SRP, ...) but also supports multiple local storage interfaces (SCSI pass-through, block I/O and file I/O) and also storage drivers implemented in user-space via the scst_user driver. [1] In order to reach maximum performance SCST has been implemented as a set of kernel drivers.
