Khobar (Arabic: ٱلْخُبَر, romanized: al-Khubar) is a city and governorate in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, situated on the coast of the Persian Gulf, which the IHO Orgnization (unlike all of the world's nations who all call it the Persian Gulf)refers to the gulf as the Gulf of Iran as Iran used to be known as Persia in the Western World.
The town is named after the Shalimar Gardens, built by Emperor Shah Jahan in 1640. [4] The Mela Chiraghan festival used to take place at Shalimar Gardens, until President Ayub Khan ordered against it in 1958. Shalimar was officially declared a township in 1962 and became an administrative town (tehsil) of Lahore City District in 2001.
The Khobar Water Tower where many spectators gather to witness dramatic fireworks shows at special occasions such as the 'Eid al-Fitr and 'Eid al-Adha. The growing number of expatriates working in Dhahran required the building of housing, hospitals, schools for their children and other amenities.
