Safe mode is a diagnostic mode of a computer operating system (OS). It can also refer to a mode of operation by application software . Safe mode is intended to help fix most, if not all, problems within an operating system.
Normal safe mode operation can sometimes be overridden. A spacecraft's ability to enter safe mode may be suppressed during crucial spacecraft operations (such as the orbit insertion maneuver of the Cassini spacecraft at Saturn), during which – if a critical failure were to occur – most, if not all, of the mission objectives would be lost anyway. In all versions of Windows 9x except ME, it is also possible to load Windows by booting to a DOS prompt and typing "win". There are some command line switches that can be used with the WIN command: with the /D switch, Windows boots to safe mode, and with the /D:n switch, Windows boots to safe mode
First, please sign your posts, and second, maybe. This article is about an Operating System's Safe mode, not about a game's safe mode, but you make a good point. Certain high-intensity games (Halo, the MOH series, LucasArts games) possess a safe mode with minimal settings in all categories. I would post it and see what happens.
These choices can include different operating systems (for dual or multi-booting from different partitions or drives), different versions of the same operating system (in case a new version has unexpected problems), different operating system loading options (e.g., booting into a rescue or safe mode), and some standalone programs that can ...
In computing, protected mode, also called protected virtual address mode, [1] is an operational mode of x86-compatible central processing units (CPUs). It allows system software to use features such as segmentation , virtual memory , paging and safe multi-tasking designed to increase an operating system's control over application software .
In a similar vein, an industrial or domestic burner controller can fail, but must fail in a safe mode (i.e. turn combustion off when they detect faults). Famously, nuclear weapon systems that launch-on-command are fail-safe, because if the communications systems fail, launch cannot be commanded. Railway signaling is designed to be fail-safe.
