The Maine Principals’ Association (MPA) is the governing body for sports competitions among all public and some private high schools in the state of Maine. It is a member of the National Federation of State High School Associations. The MPA offices are located in Augusta.
York High School has an athletic program with four coed sports, 11 female sports, and 10 male sports. The coed sports teams include golf, skiing, unified basketball and wrestling. The female sports include basketball, cross country, field hockey, ice hockey, indoor and outdoor track and field, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball.
The men's track field is the first team in the history of Maine to have seven consecutive wins of the state championship, a feat completed in 2016. [177] Bates maintains 31 varsity teams, and 9 club teams, including sailing, cycling, ice hockey, rugby, and water polo.
With 14,000 seats, the speedway has the largest seating capacity of any sporting venue in Maine.The main race held there is the Bar Harbor Bank & Trust Oxford 250, which has run under various sanctions over the years; in the early 1990s, the race was a combination race between the NASCAR Busch Series and NASCAR Busch North Series, but it later became an American Canadian Tour Late Model race ...
The program has also made 16 NCAA tournament appearances, most recently in 2011 when they defeated FIU, 4-1, in the NCAA regionals. The program has won the AEC Tournament five times, in 1993, 2002, 2005, 2006, and 2011. The program also won the conference in 1990 and 1991, before the America East sponsored a baseball tournament.
