Belmont Cragin is one of 77 officially designated Chicago community areas located on the Northwest Side of the City of Chicago, Illinois. It is designated Community Area 19, and is located 8 miles (13 km) NW of the Loop.
In 1895, by an act of the North Carolina General Assembly, an area within a 1/4 mile radius from the intersection of Main Street and the railroad was incorporated as the Town of Belmont. [11] Belmont was still a small town at the turn of the century, with a population of only 145.

The building containing the shopping centre dates to 1901 and was built in the Renaissance style. The building was designed by John Alexander Ogg Allan, the official architect to the Aberdeen School Board. [8] The building is Category B listed.
