San Antonio's first public hospital, The Robert B. Green Memorial Hospital, opened in 1917 on the west side of what is now downtown San Antonio. The hospital suffered from inconsistent funding over the years, so in 1955, voters approved the creation of a hospital district and a property tax to provide a stable funding source for it.

She chairs the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Long School of Medicine within the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and previously served as the medical director of the Brain Injury and Stroke Program at TIRR Memorial Hermann.
Methodist Hospital is a hospital operated by Methodist Healthcare located in San Antonio, Texas. Methodist Hospital was established in 1963 and is one of the largest hospitals in the United States in terms of number of available beds. [1] [2] [3] The hospital offers San Antonio's only heart transplant program. [citation needed]
