The polytechnic university of the University of Wisconsin System, [3] it enrolls more than 6,900 students. [4] The school was founded in 1891 and named in honor of its founder, lumber magnate James Huff Stout.

Dec. 19—MENOMONIE — The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development announced a partnership with the University of Wisconsin-Stout to offer an online program that is the first of its kind.
The Stout Institute bought the property from the county and converted it to a women's dormitory named Eichelberger Hall for the University of Wisconsin–Stout in 1945. The house was later converted to offices for the university and now houses the Stout University Foundation and the Stout Alumni Association.
