Waverly is an unincorporated community in Eaton County in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is a census-designated place (CDP) for statistical purposes and has no legal status as a municipality. The population was 23,925 at the 2010 census, [4] up from 16,194 at the 2000 census. Waverly is home to the Lansing Mall and Waverly Community Schools.
The original Lansing City Market opened in 1909 at an adjacent site north of the current city market. [4] The building was demolished in April 2010 to allow room for a new mixed-use development. Before the cathedral was built, St. Mary Church, located north of the present church, was dedicated in Lansing in 1866. However, in the late 1800s and early 1900s, Lansing's population grew. The church purchased the land that the present St. Mary's sits on in 1900, and a temporary new church was constructed in 1903. [5]
