Willard Mitt Romney (born March 12, 1947) is an American businessman and retired politician. He served as a United States senator from Utah from 2019 to 2025 and as the 70th governor of Massachusetts from 2003 to 2007. He was the Republican Party's nominee in the 2012 U.S. presidential election.
Orrin Hatch was Utah's longest-serving senator (1977–2019). Utah is one of sixteen states alongside California, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, Pennsylvania, South Dakota and West Virginia to have a younger senior senator and an older junior senator.
