Loop 546 was designated on April 9, 1984, from Loop 250 east and south 3.5 miles (5.6 km) to Wall Avenue, then east 1.3 miles (2.1 km) along Wall Avenue to SH 349 (now Bus. SH 349), then south along SH 349 to Florida Avenue, then southeast 2.5 miles (4.0 km) along Florida Avenue and Garden City Highway to I-20/SH 158 along an old routing of SH 158.
DCTA is the first, and so far only, CCTA in the state of Texas. In 2006, DCTA absorbed LINK, the mass transit service operated by the City of Denton since 2002. The historic routing of SH 24 was one of the 25 original Texas state highways. On August 21, 1923, the routing had changed substantially. The original Denton to Whitesboro route was removed from the state highway system (it was later SH 10). A portion of the former SH 28 from Jacksboro to Benjamin was reassigned as SH 24. [4]
