Rhoda and Joe. Eight weeks into the series, on Monday, October 28, 1974, Rhoda and Joe were married in a special hour-long episode that broke several television viewership records. Heavily publicized, it became the highest-rated television episode of the 1970s, a record it held until the miniseries Roots claimed that achievement in 1977. [10]
Season 4 of Rhoda consisted of 24 half-hour episodes. The show still aired on CBS on Sunday nights at 8:00 p.m. Nancy Walker and Harold Gould returned to the series in this season, while Kenneth McMillan joined the cast as Jack Doyle. This is the last season to feature Gary Levy before leaving the show.
While doing theater in Los Angeles in 1970, Harper was spotted by casting agent Ethel Winant, who called her in to audition for the role of Rhoda Morgenstern on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. [4] She co-starred there from 1970 to 1974, then starred in the spinoff series Rhoda (CBS 1974–1978) in which her character returned to New York City.

While on vacation in New York City, Rhoda Morgenstern met Joe Gerard, a handsome divorcé with a young son who ran the New York Wrecking Company. Joe and Rhoda fell in love and eventually he invited her to live with him in his apartment; once she moved in, Rhoda decided she wanted to get married and, after a little hesitation, Joe finally agreed.

Phyllis appears in one sixty minute episode "Rhoda's Wedding" (two parts in syndication) of the Mary Tyler Moore Show spinoff Rhoda. Phyllis (and Rhoda) later returned to Mary Tyler Moore for "The Last Show", the program's March 19, 1977 series finale. This is the character's only reappearance subsequent to the launch of the spinoff.
