A pawtograph is a print of an animal's paw, regarded in some contexts as equivalent to a human signature. This term is used in particular for the practice of collecting pawtographs of celebrity animals. [1] [2] The hobby of collecting pawtographs is known as pawtography. Maud Alice Earl (1863–1943) was a British-American artist, known for her canine paintings. Her works are much enjoyed by dog enthusiasts and also accurately record many breeds.
Earl was a keen sportsman [1] and this is reflected in his work and reputation as a dog painter. He was also an early member of The Kennel Club . Although chiefly remembered as a canine artist due to his success depicting them, of the nineteen paintings Earl exhibited at the Royal Academy (RA) between 1857 and 1883 only a minority was of dogs.

Dynamism of a Dog on a Leash (Italian: Dinamismo di un cane al guinzaglio), sometimes called Dog on a Leash [2] or Leash in Motion, [3] is a 1912 oil painting by Italian Futurist painter Giacomo Balla. [4] It was influenced by the artist's fascination with chronophotographic studies of animals in motion.
