The film's titling as The Late Bloomer was first announced in January 2010, as Alcon was developing the film. [5] At the time, Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson were attached as producers, and the studio was re-imagining the idea into a comedy by hiring Joe Nussbaum to write a new draft of the script. [5]
