The Beaumont Tower is a structure on the campus of Michigan State University, designed by the architectural firm of Donaldson and Meier and completed in 1928. The 104-foot-tall (32 m) tower marks the site of College Hall, the first building constructed on the campus, as well as the first building in America erected for instruction in scientific agriculture.
Ever since Jonathan Lehrer heard the carillon for the first time at age 18, he knew he loved it. After 22 years of playing around the world, he's now landed in Beaumont Tower on MSU's campus.
The carillon was installed in 1984 and the bells were cast by the Royal Eijsbouts bell foundry. The smallest bell weighs 31 pounds, and the largest bell weighs 4,850 pounds. The carillon was a gift from Mrs. William James Pharr and is dedicated to the memory of her husband.
