To convert a pdf: Convert the first page of a PDF file with pdf2svg file.pdf file.svg. To extract all pages of a multiple-page PDF use pdf2svg file.pdf output-%02d.svg all. This generates output files output-00.svg, output-01.svg, etc. where the pattern "%02d" is replaced by the respective two-digit page numbers.
Select the page of the PDF you are interested in if the PDF is a multi-page document (Illustrator will only open one page at a time). Go to File > Save As (Shift + Ctrl + S). From the Format drop-down menu, select SVG (*.SVG). Save As. In the resulting dialog box: Under SVG Profiles, choose a profile (usually SVG 1.0 or SVG 1.1).
This image needs to be converted to the SVG format. Once that is done, it should be moved to Wikimedia Commons in accordance with Wikipedia's image policy. SVG images stored at Wikipedia or on the Wikimedia Commons aren't actually what you see in your browser when viewing Wikipedia articles. MediaWiki converts the SVG image to a PNG image. The SVG format is the working format of the stored image so that people can more easily convert images for use in different languages.

Every page using this template uses the same boilerplate text each time that a user visits it. When the template is updated, all pages containing the template tag are automatically updated.
