In 2014 a new youth hostel opened in Brighton. The Youth Hostels Association of Northern Ireland was formed in 1931, [2] around the same time as the Youth Hostels Association (England & Wales) YHA(E&W) and the Scottish Youth Hostels Association (SYHA). All three arose from a slightly earlier proposal to form the Youth Hostel Association of Great Britain.

The National Association of Youth Hostel Wardens was a trade union representing workers at youth hostels in England and Wales. The union was founded in 1948 as the National Federation of Wardens' Associations. In 1965, it became the "National Association of Youth Hostel Wardens".
