The Earthway seems like a durable, reasonably priced spreader. The gear housing of the Lesco and Spyker look very similar from a thickness perspective. Earthway now makes the Prizelawn spreaders. Possibly Prizelawn also made the Scotts/ Andersons spreader, years ago.
Spyker Spreaders innovation and technology leads the spreading industry. Spyker Spreaders, now in its 136th year of manufacturing, offers product lines that extend from push and pull (tow) models to electric spreaders applications. We are pleased to announce our newest additions to the Spyker...
We had another one break today. I ordered more today from TURFCO (they will arrive tomorrow). This part shells out on Spyker push spreaders, as well as stand-on spreader/sprayer units that use the Spyker spreader. NOTE: 2 different sizes. I can't believe Spyker uses these cheap plastic things in the first place. Photo shows a couple of broken ones.
LESCO spreaders continue to be inferior. imo pros: lightweight cons: several -- cumbersome long handles, pins unexpectedly shelling out, narrow spread width, etc Spyker 288 We started using them whey were first introduced, and we relied on them for years pros: nice wide pattern, etc
The Spyker 288's (as well as our Spyker 220 model) have one rectangular opening. Mason calls our 3-hole spreaders a "three ring circus" cuz it only takes one dime-sized chunk to affect the pattern.
The past two years we have also run TURFCO T3000's (w/Spyker spreaders). All these units have the same thing in common -- the impeller speed is faster than push spreaders.....this is why the "heavy to the right pattern". Plus --- we switched to XCU fertilizer almost two years ago. XCU has a harder shell.
I don't think I like Spyker spreaders! For all the hype about how great the Spyker spreader is, it sure has it's problems! I have always had "issues" with the Spyker on my ZSpray & my 288. Seems like if you use anything other than 230sgn clean fert, the spread is hard or impossible to get even. I recently started using Agrium's XCU fert which ...
Okay -- we run 8 LESCO's and 2 Spyker 288's (new). Both do the job. Spykers really throw out the fert further than LESCO's/they never have required replacement parts/impellers don't get the fert build-up compared to LESCO spreaders. I also like the deflector shield compared to LESCO spreaders. On the other hand, the LESCO's are lighter weight ...
Thanks. Spyker rotary broadcast spreader. In some of the older spreaders, the internal agitation wire is broken or missing. Nothing is spinning at the bottom of the hopper. Also, take a look at the opening and closing action when the spreader is empty. If it has a cable opening action, rust can block the proper movement of the cable.
