The crimes include execution by the release of a container full of cobra snakes into a car where the driver is forcibly prevented from escaping (Bangkok 8), the theft of valuable tattoos (and their associated human skin) off the backs' of murder victims (Bangkok Tattoo), and homicide related to the production of a snuff video (Bangkok Haunts).
The Swedish title of the book is Det som inte dödar oss, literally translated "That Which Does Not Kill Us". [18] Like the previous novels, the English language translation was published by Quercus. He falls in love with the woman, Gita, during his years of imprisonment, and vows to marry and start a family with her once they are free.
It also won the 2008 Boeke Prize, and in 2009 the Galaxy British Book Awards [13] for Books Direct Crime Thriller of the Year, and the prestigious Anthony Award [14] [15] for Best First Novel. The Guardian ranked The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo at 98 in its list of 100 Best Books of the 21st Century. [16]
Earl Thompson (May 24, 1931 – November 9, 1978) was a leading American writer of naturalist prose. Nominated for the National Book Award for A Garden of Sand and chosen by the Book of the Month Club for Tattoo, [1] Thompson died suddenly at the peak of his success, having published just three novels—the fourth The Devil to Pay, was published posthumously.
