Krakatoa (/ ˌ k r ɑː k ə ˈ t oʊ ə, ˌ k r æ k-/), also transcribed Krakatau (/-ˈ t aʊ /), is a caldera [1] in the Sunda Strait between the islands of Java and Sumatra in the Indonesian province of Lampung. The caldera is part of a volcanic island group (Krakatoa archipelago) comprising four islands.

Ujung Kulon National Park is a national park at the westernmost tip of Java, located in Sumur District of Pandeglang Regency, part of Banten province in Indonesia.It once included the volcanic island group of Krakatoa in Lampung province, [2] [3] although current maps has suggested the Krakatoa island group as its own protected area, the Pulau Anak Krakatau Marine Nature Reserve.
It is known as a beach resort with sea views, having a 15-kilometre (9.3 mi) white sand coastline and also marine life where visitors can enjoy snorkeling, diving as well as fishing. The area has been declared as a "cultural heritage" since the location is near Ujung Kulon National Park, Mount Krakatau and Umang Island. [2]
A new parasitic cone, called Anak Krakatau (or the child of Krakatau), rose from the sea at the centre of the caldera in 1930. [14] The other Krakatau islets from the 1883 eruptions are known as Sertung, Panjang and Rakata. Java is a relatively small island compared to Sumatra, but it has a higher concentration of active volcanoes.
