Chevrolet introduced several specialized variants of the C/K series, including the work-oriented W/T 1500, off-road Z71, and the high-performance 454SS. Between one-ton trucks and the Kodiak medium-duty trucks, Chevrolet and GMC offered the C3500HD chassis cab for commercial use.
The W/T 1500 (W/T stands for Work Truck) was a de-contented version of the Cheyenne marketed primarily for work use and was only available with the 4.3L V6, regular cab, and 8' bed (a 6.5' Fleetside bed was later available); the 454SS combined elements of the Sport Equipment Package with the 7.4L V8 of 3500-series trucks.
The GMT 400 and similar GMT 480 was the platform used for the Chevrolet C/K and GMC Sierra full-size pickup trucks beginning with the 1988 model year. The GMT 410, GMT 420, GMT 425, and GMT 430 variants were derived for full-size SUVs, including the 1992–1994 Chevrolet Blazer and 1995–2000 Tahoe, and the GMC Yukon from late 1991 to 2000.
