  2. Don't buy Anchor Hocking canning jars. Or at least, don't use ......

Based on web feedback, decided that the lids were the problem. Next batch - 11 pints of tomatoes, ball lids and rings, 4 failure. I will not be using these jars for canning again. I use a lot of canning jars in my pantry for dry goods. I will trade out all my old jars for these cute little jars but I will not use them again for canning.

  3. Anchor Hocking food storage replacement lids : r/Frugal - Reddit

    www.reddit.com/r/Frugal/comments/11dh9cm/anchor_hocking_food_storage...

I bought a set of Pyrex lids on amazon and they fit on my anchor hocking containers. They we’re more than I wanted to spend, but still cheaper than buying new containers. I like to pick them up at thrift stores and they never have lids. Overall, I’ve only had to replace a few lids and I’ve had my containers for probably fifteen years. 2 ...

Most commercial pint and quart-size mayonnaise or salad dressing jars may be used with new two-piece lids for canning acid foods. However, you should expect more seal failures and jar breakage. These jars have a narrower sealing surface and are tempered less than Mason jars, and may be weakened by repeated contact with metal spoons or knives ...

  5. Anyone having experience freezing batches of food in mason jars?

    www.reddit.com/r/EatCheapAndHealthy/comments/fn3tzq/anyone_having_experience...

As long as you keep stuff clean, it should be fine. The more times a jar goes through the freeze/thaw cycle, the more likely it is to break - at any point in the cycle. If a jar does break, don't try to salvage anything. Sacrificing a jar of food is better than risking ingesting any amount of glass.

  7. Quart jars: Just spotted at Costco. : r/Canning - Reddit

    www.reddit.com/r/Canning/comments/pabeqf/quart_jars_just_spotted_at_costco

Anchor Hocking is a well-known brand for glass in general, even if they're not a big player in the canning jar space. I bought a case of their 8 oz jars from Walmart last year, and didn't have any problems with them. The lids even had a more satisfying ping than Ball lids.

  8. Anybody use these brands before? : r/Canning - Reddit

    www.reddit.com/r/Canning/comments/uxwu68/anybody_use_these_brands_before

Golden Harvest is reliable but I don’t recognize the other brand. Anchor Hocking seems to use Golden Harvest lids on their canning jars and I’ve never had one not seal or corrode. Golden harvest is made by ball. Golden harvest is just as reliable as ball/Bernardin. I’ve got some golden harvest at home.

  9. Apple butter didn’t seal : r/Canning - Reddit

    www.reddit.com/r/Canning/comments/iy0zx3/apple_butter_didnt_seal

Apple butter didn’t seal. I was making apple butter earlier and not one of my 7 half pint jars sealed. I did 1/4 to 1/2 inch space and water processed for 10 min using anchor hocking canning jars. Archived post. New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast. You can reprocess within 24 hours, or refrigerate and eat.

  10. Off Brand Jars—$9.00 at The Dollar Store—what do u think?

    www.reddit.com/r/Canning/comments/xgovqk/off_brand_jars900_at_the_dollar_store...

Dry storage. Reg mouth mason jars are $10.59 now at Walmart (if you have Walmart on your area). I personally only trust ball lids (or kerr) esp after seeing all the horror stories during the pandemic when people bought off brand or were sent counterfeit. Some off brand jars seem ok, others are noticably thinner.
