In 1988 and 1992, the boys basketball team won the Arkansas high school overall title when the state held a tournament of classification champions. [5] In 2012, Parkview basketball teams won 6A state championships; the girls team won 50–31 over Russellville High School and the boys team won 69–65 in double overtime over Jonesboro High School.
One male student and one female student from each high school are then selected to receive the honor after a competitive application process. Boys and Girls State programs both began in 1937. Boys/Girls State is typically staffed by Legion Family members, past participants, and/or community leaders who volunteer their time and effort.

The girls' school was founded in 1987, two years after the opening of Springvale House under the headship of Michael Hammond with 28 pupils. Peterhouse Girls' has an enrollment of 430 boarding pupils. Unlike Peterhouse Boys', the girls' school has two separate house systems (that is, boarding and competitive houses).
