The University of Pittsburgh Varsity Marching Band, or Pitt Band, is the college marching band at the University of Pittsburgh. The band numbers over 300 students consisting of instrumentalists, a majorette squad known as the Golden Girls, a color guard, and the drumline. The band was founded in 1911 and has won numerous awards over the years.
Schools with prominent football programs in the power 5 conferences typically field traditional, Big Ten-style show bands, whose repertoire largely consists of popular music. They often perform a different half time show at each home game and frequently use a high march style.
At the championships, bands receive final scoring in their respective classes with the top scoring band from each class being crowned a PIMBA Class Champion. The championships has historically been held at the following locations: Connellsville Area Senior High School's Mighty Falcon Marching Band performing at a competition in 2022.
