The Fox River Trail is a multi-use path in Illinois along the Fox River. Largely in Kane County , the trail connects the communities of (North to South) Algonquin , Carpentersville , Dundee , Elgin , South Elgin , St. Charles , Geneva , Batavia , North Aurora , Aurora , Montgomery , and Oswego .
Until the 1950s all bridges crossing the Fox River in Kane County were located on the main streets of the towns along the river. Starting with Interstate 90 (I-90) in 1958 and the Elgin Bypass in 1962, planners have added additional bridges between the historic towns. Later the Fabyan Parkway bridge between Geneva and Batavia was added.

On a more local level, the Prairie Path intersects with Kane County's Fox River Trail four times, and the Great Western Trail—a parallel connector between the Main Stem at Lombard and the Elgin Branch. Future connections are planned to the West Branch DuPage River Trail, the East Branch DuPage River Trail, and the Salt Creek Trail. [3]

IL 59 is a major four-lane arterial for most of its length, running parallel to and about five miles (8 km) east of the Fox River in Illinois, and thirty miles (48 km) west of Chicago's State Street. It is especially congested in the suburbs of Aurora and Naperville , where traffic counts average 40,000-55,000 vehicles per day.
