Truthfully, the F350 only feels safe because it's 20ft long, and so basically impossible to spin. The safest you'll ever be is in a vehicle that has exactly enough ground height to clear the deepest snow you'll encounter with the best snow tires you can put on it. Driving in snowy conditions is inherently dangerous.
In Australia we call them utes, overland rigs or 4x4 vehicles, the vehicle it sounds like you’re looking for the most is: Toyota prado, basically an suv built to survive rural areas. Isuzu MUX or Mitsubishi pajero as alternatives.
4x4 The best 4x4s on the market. YJ MGC 4x4. Similarly to the rest of the MGC line, this cube is very fast with strong magnetic feel, very good corner cutting, the only downside is that it can lock up occasionally. It's slightly larger than it's main competitor, the WR M at 60mm.
YJ MGC is the most popular, most recommended, best price per performance 4x4 (and 5x5-7x7). MoYu Aosu WRM is considered the best 4x4, but it cost more than 2x as much, but it's not 2x as much better. If you need something more budget friendly, then the YJ Zhilong/Zhisu Mini 4x4 is great, and almost as good as the MGC.
No old 4x4 will match the capability of current models with electronic aids. Even basic traction control is a huge game changer. That being said, the old Toyota Pickups from the late 70s and 80s that were actually Hilux without the name were the most durable and reliable ever sold in the US. Solid axles, manual locking hubs, and 22re motors.
Make sure the lights that come with the 4*4 are 4*4 lights. Last year, when I got my setup (Mars H), I upgraded the lights on their standard 4x4 package to their FC-E4800, which will do a small tent 4x4, and is a bit less expensive than the commercial grade 480w set. Enjoy the journey.
The rubiks brand 4x4 is in that price range and is not worth it. I dont have any specific suggestions because I'm a new cuber but you can look at the 4x4 section of a cubing website such as this one for speedcubeshop for lots of better options. For cheaper cubes (and free shipping) you could look at a site like cubezz.
A base sasquatch is a solid 4x4 machine. It can do the vast majority of trails out there. Obviously not the really tough stuff. A bronco is meant to be off-road capable but mainly a solid DD. Sure with ifs it's never matching a jeep. Heck, the bronco is the best thing to happen to Jeep fans, Chrysler can't be lazy anymore.
Thoughts on best 4x4 to purchase around $30-35k? Hi all! Thought this would be a good place to get some advice. Looking to buy a 4x4 for a daily driver plus some trips off-road. A little newer to the Aussie market and wondering if the community has recommendations on what to get.
I think the best vehicle for you would be a Grand Cherokee. Either a ZJ or a WJ. Edit: There were quite a few full time 4x4 grands, so a Cherokee is going to be easier to find in the configuration you want. I've towed a light (about 1200 lbs) trailer with a 2002 wrangler and a 1990 Cherokee. I thought I was going to die in the wrangler.
