Shūji Tsushima (津島 修治, Tsushima Shūji, 19 June 1909 – 13 June 1948), known by his pen name Osamu Dazai (太宰 治, Dazai Osamu), was a Japanese novelist and author. No Longer Human (Japanese: 人間失格, Hepburn: Ningen Shikkaku), also translated as A Shameful Life, is a 1948 novel by Japanese author Osamu Dazai.It tells the story of a troubled man incapable of revealing his true self to others, and who, instead, maintains a façade of hollow jocularity, later turning to a life of alcoholism and drug abuse before his final disappearance.
The building was built in 1907 by Dazai's father, who was a wealthy landowner and member of the Japanese Diet during the Meiji period. [1] Dazai lived in the house from his birth in 1909 until 1923, when he moved to the city of Aomori. Afterward, he returned on a number of occasions, and moved back into the house from 1942 to 1945.
