The last telethon took place in 1989, and the Pacific Northwest chapter closed down in 1992. The Iowa Chapter of Variety has held an annual Variety Telethon since 1975. Celebrating its 44th year in 2018, the telethon is Variety – the Children's Charity of Iowa's largest fundraiser.
