The 6.8mm Remington Special Purpose Cartridge (6.8 SPC, 6.8 SPC II or 6.8×43mm) is a rimless bottlenecked intermediate rifle cartridge that was developed by Remington Arms in collaboration with members of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit and United States Special Operations Command [6] to possibly replace the 5.56 NATO cartridge in short barreled rifles (SBR) and carbines.
The rebated rim dimensions exactly match the 6.8mm Remington SPC case, allowing the use of the 6.8mm SPC bolt-face of an AR-15, but the case has a base diameter of .4400" and cannot be reformed from any other existing case. The 400 LGND uses .4005" jacketed rifle bullets. 450 Bushmaster, Uses .284 Winchester cases. Cut the length to 1.700" to ...

The designation of M468 stands for an M4 carbine chambered for the 6.8mm SPC cartridge. It was an attempt to create an optimal Special Operations close-to-medium range carbine for Close Quarter Battle (CQB). A 12-inch barreled micro-carbine and 16-inch barreled carbine version were created. Barrett ceased manufacturing the rifle in 2010. [4]
In December 2019, the cartridge was announced for non-military usage, along with the SIG Sauer CROSS bolt-action rifle. As a short-action rifle cartridge (cartridges having an overall length of 2.750 inches (69.85 mm) or less), increased internal ballistic performance for its cartridge case volume is accomplished by applying high gas pressure. Therefore, rifle components such as the bolt and magazine are interchangeable between 5.56×45mm and .277 Wolverine firearms, and standard AR-15 magazines can be used with no ...
The SIG Sauer MCX-SPEAR (the rifle's commercial designation) is chambered in the 6.8×51mm (.277 in) SIG Fury cartridge in response to concerns that improvements in body armor would diminish the effectiveness of ammunition such as the 5.56×45mm NATO (for the M4 and M249) and 7.62×51mm NATO (for M240).
It is an M4 carbine utilizing a short-stroke gas piston system and is available in either 5.56×45mm NATO or 6.8mm Remington SPC. The REC7 is Barrett's second AR-pattern rifle chambered for the 6.8mm Remington SPC cartridge, the first being the Barrett M468 rifle. The 6.8 SPC-chambered M468 rifle employed the same Stoner expanding gas system as ...
