For the 1981 model year, the "Buick Opel" metamorphosed into the "Isuzu I-Mark". [14] Unlike the Buick-badged versions the I-Mark was also available with a diesel engine, but the standard engine was a 78 hp (58 kW) (SAE net) version of the 1.8 litre G180Z engine. [ 15 ]
Opel, Vauxhall, and Holden each also sold rebadged versions of the five-door as the Opel Frontera, Vauxhall Frontera, and Holden Frontera. It was also sold as the Chevrolet Frontera in Egypt, the Isuzu Cameo and Isuzu Vega in Thailand, the Isuzu Frontier in South Africa, and as the Chevrolet Rodeo in Ecuador, Colombia and Bolivia.
A modified version was sold in the United States as Buick's Opel by Isuzu, and in Australia as the Holden Gemini. As a result of the collaboration, certain American GM products were sold to Japanese customers through Isuzu dealerships. Holden's Statesman was also briefly sold (246 examples) with Isuzu badging in Japan during the seventies. [11]
The best-selling Opel models in the U.S. were the 1964 to 1972 Opel Kadett, the 1971 to 1975 Opel Manta, and the 1968 to 1973 Opel GT. The 1.8 L G180Z SOHC engine was used in the 1972–1976 Opel Kadett, Isuzu Gemini, Chevrolet LUV, and Isuzu 117 Coupé.
