The first world record in the women's discus throw was recognized by the International Association of Athletics Federations in 1923. As of 2013, 55 world records have been ratified by the IAAF in the event.
The event consists of throwing a heavy disc, with the weight or size depending on the competitor. Men and women throw different sized discs, with varying sizes and weights depending on age. The weight of the discus is either governed by World Athletics for international or USA Track & Field for the United States.
The women's event was first contested at the 1928 Olympics, being one of the five athletics events in the inaugural Olympic women's programme. The Olympic records are 70 m (229 ft 7 + 3 ⁄ 4 in) for men, set by Roje Stona in 2024, and 72.30 m (237 ft 2 + 1 ⁄ 4 in) for women, set by Martina Hellmann in 1988.
This is a list of the NCAA outdoor champions in the discus throw. Measurement was conducted in imperial distances (feet and inches) until 1975. Metrication occurred in 1976, so all subsequent championships were measured in metric distances. The women's event started in 1982.

Kristin Lätt (née Tattar, born 3 July 1992 in Pärnu) [6] is an Estonian professional disc golfer [7] and former competitive cross-country skier. [8] In 2022 she became the female disc golf world champion [9] for the first time.
