ALL military M1 Garand receivers, Italian or U.S. produced, are FORGINGS, and therefore many times stronger. The rifle you are looking at is NOT, never was, and never could BE a military rifle, anywhere, at any time, for anyone. U.S. Military production of the M1 Garand ended in 1956 at serial numbers just over 6 million.

I'll take a stab at it, using Scott Duff's "The M1 Garand: World War II" as a reference. Rear Sight: All WWII Garands had either very early "Flush-Nut" or "Lock-Bar" type rear sights, yours is a 1950's replacement. Bolt: D28287-12SA is a good number, and was used from March'42 thru July '44.
M1/M2 receiver Jump to Latest 3K views 3 replies 2 participants last post by Morpheus Jan 9, 2005
The RECEIVER was made in '44, the barrel also has a mfg date on it (the 2 may often be years apart). As far as the rest of it goes, without photo's and part numbers it's hard to say when all the other pieces were made (you can make a good guess by the revision number), or how often it has been rebuilt (re-arsenaled)
I have what I am told is a very unusual M1. It is a Springfield with serial number 1986xxx. It is in excellent condition. This one that has even stumped my local expert. It is quite obviously an M1 Garand is styling, it is the length of a Tanker model however it is chambered for .308 (7.62) and has a detachable box magazine.
Just purchased an M1 at a gunshow the other day and am having a hard time finding out if its a welded receiver or not. It doesn't have any obvious weld, scratch, or grind marks and its the same color but I wanted to check the serial number to the receiver drawing number just to make sure but I can't find the resources to do that online.
