Campbelltown is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 3,616 at the 2010 census. [ 3 ] It is located east of Hershey at the intersection of U.S. Route 322 and Pennsylvania Route 117 and is located in the Harrisburg metropolitan area .
When Pennsylvania first legislated routes in 1911, present-day PA 117 was not given a route number. [4] PA 117 was designated in 1928 to run from PA 5 (now US 322) in Campbelltown north to US 22 (now US 422) in Palmyra, following Palmyra Road and South Railroad Street while PA 853 was designated to run from Mount Gretna east to PA 72 west of Cornwall. John Campbell (abt. 1720–1776) is credited for founding Campbelltown, Pennsylvania. [1] He was part of the wave of Scotch-Irish immigrants who voyaged to the New World in the 1700s.
