Robert Leslie Emmerson (17 September 1944 – 10 December 2021) was a Canadian musician and singer. He was the lead vocalist and guitarist for the band Five Man Electrical Band, and their predecessor band The Staccatos. He also recorded as a solo artist, charting three top 40 hits in Canada, including the #5 hit "Control Of Me".
"Signs" is the best known song by the Canadian rock group Five Man Electrical Band. It was written by the band's frontman, Les Emmerson, as he was traveling Route 66 while returning to Los Angeles from Canada and noticed all of the big signs and billboards obscuring his view of the natural scenery.
Emmerson made more appearances than any other player during the campaign, appearing in 46 matches. Such was the frequency of personnel changes that only one other player, goalkeeper Tom Farquharson , made more than 40 appearances and only five others, George Blackburn , Tom Helsby , Jones, Keenor and John Smith made 30 or more.
