The Australian Strategic Policy Institute has identified petroleum facilities in Western Australia, including offshore platforms, ports, processing plants and pipelines, as potential targets of military or terrorist attack. Offshore structures and floating production and storage vessels have few defences against attack.

[1] Upon completion in late 2025, it is estimated to be the most carbon-intensive gas development in Australia. [2]
In May 2006, Songa Offshore signed a nine-month contract with Chevron to use the rig in Australia. [4] A contract was later signed with Santos Limited, which was originally nine months and was extended to a year and then a year and a half. [2] [5] In 2013, the rig was contracted by Idemitsu Oil and Gas for drilling off Vietnam. [6]
