Santa Margarita Catholic High School (SMCHS) is a coeducational college preparatory Roman Catholic high school located in Rancho Santa Margarita, California, United States. SMCHS is owned and operated by the Diocese of Orange , [ 11 ] and was opened in 1987 under the direction of the Bishop of Orange.
By 2010 the population had risen to 14,695 residents. The educational attainment levels for the school district population (25 years old and over) were 92.9% high school graduates and 33.1% college graduates. [1] In 2009, South Middleton School District residents' per capita income was $24,370, while the median family income was $60,511 a year. [2]
A crowning achievement of the district was the opening, during the 1970–1971 school year, of two new high schools: Westland High School and Grove City High School. These two buildings, planned to house two thousand students, were built in 1970-1971 at the amazing low cost of $18.98 per square foot, or a perpupil cost of $1,700.
Kirby High School – Hickory Hill was annexed by the City of Memphis in December 1998, thus placing the school in the Memphis City Schools system in fall 1999. Kirby primarily serves the southeast area of Memphis going to the current city-unincorporated county boundary line.
The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1977. [4] As of the 2023–24 school year, the school had an enrollment of 392 students and 49.3 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 8.0:1.
