This American railroad system was built in March 1879 through the merger of the 3 ft (914 mm) narrow gauge Pittsburgh Southern Railroad (which was the 3 ft 4 in (1,016 mm) narrow gauge Pittsburgh, Castle Shannon and Washington Railroad [1] from July 1877 to April 1878), Pittsburgh Railroad, and Washington Railroad.
Linden Grove was once a nationally designated historic place located at 1100 Grove Road in Castle Shannon, Pennsylvania, but the original building (circa 1872) was torn down and it was delisted on January 20, 2000. [1] The current building there is a more recent construction called The Linden Grove Nightclub.

It was formed in 1965 after the merger of three smaller districts serving Dormont, Castle Shannon [1] (except for a portion that is served by the Bethel Park School District [2]), and Green Tree. The district's name refers to a "key" to a door for Dormont, a "stone" in a castle for Castle Shannon and the "oaks" of Green Tree.
