During the 1920s, in lieu of numbering its highways, Idaho had a system of lettered Sampson Trails. [2] They were marked by businessman Charles B. Sampson of Boise at no expense to the state, using orange-colored shields. [3] By 1929, the trails system had included 6,500 miles (10,500 km) of marked highways that covered most of the state. [4]

I-84 then travels around the city of Mountain Home, while a signed business route serves the city center and leads to the nearby Mountain Home Air Force Base. On the east side of the city, I-84 intersects SH-51 and ends its concurrency with US 20, which continues east towards Sun Valley, Idaho Falls, and Yellowstone National Park. [8]
Highway 44 continues east through Eagle and intersects with State Highway 55. From Eagle eastward, the highway is also known as State Street and continues toward Boise. The highway turns southward onto Glenwood Street in Garden City where it continues for approximately 1.3 miles (2.1 km) before ending at Chinden Boulevard (US-20/US-26). [2]
Interstate 15 (I-15) is a part of the Interstate Highway System that runs from San Diego, California, to Sweetgrass, Montana. In Idaho, the Interstate Highway runs exactly 196 miles (315 km) from the Utah state line near Woodruff north to the Montana state line at Monida Pass. I-15 is the primary north–south highway of Eastern Idaho.
The highway continues north through Jackass Gulch and descends over 500 vertical feet (150 m) on the Freezeout Grade into the Emmett Valley. The highway then curves westward for a short distance, where it terminates at the junction with State Highway 52 just south of the Emmett city limits. [2]
