We had a typical builder-installed garage door opener on our last house. It was a chain drive, the least expensive kind. But it was under a bedroom, so it would wake the occupants when my husband drove out to work at 5 am. We replaced it with an iDrive. The whole opener is contained within a sealed tube over the garage door opening.
I think we paid about $1200 for two insulated single-bay garage doors, which included installation. I can't suggest any particular company in Utah, but you might start with Angie's List. 03-30-2014, 09:26 PM
Check with Home Depot or Lowes too. That sounds a bit high (but not sure how expensive the parts are that you're ooking at). I think many openers are $150-$200, and I would have guessed no more than $100 to install (assuming no wiring issues).

I have a 1987 Garage Door Opener from Sears Craftsman. It is compatible with a sensor even though I had an 'expert' garage door repair guy come out and tell me it is not. He wanted $500 to install a whole new opener. I was a bit leery of his advice and decided to research it myself. It was pure bull****!
My garage doors are starting to fall apart, so I need to replace them. Looking to do this cheaply right now, as I plan on demoing the garage and building a new one in a few years. I just need to get by a few years with some replacement panels and would prefer to do a DIY install.

We had a new 16x7 heavy duty metal door replaced with their top of the line insulation and wagon wheel windows installed. $1600.00 including new tracks/hardware/springs, hauling away and 5 year warranty. We bought from a local independent garage door company. Sears, Home Depot and Lowe's prices were about the same, and they outsource installers.
A dwelling unit must have at least one egress door that is side-hinged, and has a clear width of at least 32 inches and a clear height of not less than 78 inches. Egress doors must be readily openable from inside of the dwelling without the use of a key or special knowledge or effort.
The problem is, the spring snapped, making it impossible to get the door up/stay up. I have managed to get the door up, but it won’t actually stay up and tends to slam back to the ground and so today I ended up taking three buses to work, which added, ohhh, about 2 hours, one way, to my commute. I now have another 2+ commute home.
