DS4Windows runs in shared mode if HidGuardian is installed. It's always been the case. It will only run in exclusive mode if you enable "Hide DS4 Controller" (which you shouldn't if using HidGuardian).
Exclusive Mode is when only DS4Windows will have access to the input controller so other apps will only see the virtual controller. The old workaround does not really work in modern Windows anymore so you would likely have to use the HidHide driver when you want to hide the input controller.
In order to use DS4Windows properly, you have to open Steam Big Picture Mode, navigate to Settings > Controller> Controller Settings and uncheck Xbox Configuration Support along with PlayStation Configuration Support.

One solution to this "double controller" problem is to hide the original DS4 Controller device, so applications see and receives re-mapped button events from the virtual x360 device only. This is the purpose of "Exclusive Mode" option.
There's a setting in DS4Windows - "Hide DS4 Controller". Just turn this on, connect your controller and make sure it worked. If it worked, there'll be a checkmark if you look at your controllers in the main view. the best thing about native mode is that you can assign a macro the share button in native mode and it will still work. since no native dualsense/dualshock game will ever use the share button. I usually assign my screenshot shortcut to that button to take screenshots without using my keyboard
Make sure DS4Windows tool is the first application using DS4 controller if "Hide DS4 Controller" (exclusive) mode is used. Alternative solution is to use HidGuardian tool because it works without exclusive mode (see bottom of this page for more info).
If a game uses both the Share and TP buttons, you can have a profile with Share as it is and the PS button remapped to the TP. Or, if you want more advanced solutions, you can use special actions in the profile settings so you can switch between different profiles by button combinations mid-game.
