The Department of Wildlife Resources is excited to announce the start of the 2021 Trout Stocking season. From October 1 through May 31, DWR hatchery staff will stock nearly one million catchable-size fish into 200 waters throughout Virginia.
There are three main species of trout in Virginia, Brook Trout, Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout. Of the three, Rainbow Trout are the most common because they are the strongest and the water in Virginia is best suited for Rainbow Trout. The map below shows the hotspots of the stocking locations for Rainbow Trout.
