The Red Hill Underground Fuel Storage Facility (formally named the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility) was originally completed by the U.S. Navy in 1943, to replace above-ground storage tanks that were vulnerable to air attack. The Red Hill facility includes twenty underground fuel storage tanks.
