The National Heart Foundation of Australia (known as the Heart Foundation) is a charity established in 1959.Its activities have been funding cardiovascular research, supporting health professionals in their practice, developing health promotion activities, informing and educating the public and assisting people with cardiovascular disease.
Manning has held a number of roles relating to medical ethics, including with the Medical Practitioners Disciplinary Committee, National Ethics Advisory Committee and Scientific Advisory Committee of the Heart Foundation NZ. She has also edited a source book on one of New Zealand's biggest medical ethics controversies, the Cartwright Inquiry. [2]
The grants are made from the Marsden Fund, which was established by the New Zealand Government in 1994. The Marsden Fund is administered by the Royal Society of New Zealand. Most of the grants go to researchers at New Zealand universities, but some go to researchers at Crown Research Institutes and elsewhere.
The New Zealand Mana Tūānuku Research Leader Fellowship is designed for "mid-career researchers building an established and expansive reputation, and looking to make the transition to research leaders, both in their field and across the system". It is a 4-year fellowship for researchers with 6–12 years experience.
