Hermanus (Afrikaans: [ɦærˈmɑːnœs]; [1] originally called Hermanuspietersfontein, but shortened in 1902 as the name was too long for the postal service [2]), is a town on the southern coast of the Western Cape province of South Africa.

Hawston is a village in the Western Cape, South Africa, It is a fishing village north-east of Mudge Point, 5 km north-west of Onrusrivier and 11 km from Hermanus.It is named after C.R. Haw, a civil commissioner of Caledon.
Other major towns are Swellendam (pop. 13,557) on the Breede River in the north-east, Caledon (pop. 10,650) in the western interior, and Hermanus (pop. 10,500) on the Atlantic coast. The Overberg district is divided into four local municipalities, which are described in the following table.
