The idea of a tree of life arose from ancient notions of a ladder-like progression from lower into higher forms of life (such as in the Great Chain of Being).Early representations of "branching" phylogenetic trees include a "paleontological chart" showing the geological relationships among plants and animals in the book Elementary Geology, by Edward Hitchcock (first edition: 1840).
To change this template's initial visibility, the |state= parameter may be used: {{Phylogenetics | state = collapsed}} will show the template collapsed, i.e. hidden apart from its title bar. {{Phylogenetics | state = expanded}} will show the template expanded, i.e. fully visible.
Phylogenetic tree for ancient Eurasians. Each item in the tree is linked through a transparent link to its mother article. The code for a given item is:
English: A phylogenetic tree of living things, based on RNA data and proposed by Carl Woese, showing the separation of bacteria, archaea, and eukaryotes. Trees constructed with other genes are generally similar, although they may place some early-branching groups very differently, thanks to long branch attraction.
an online tool for phylogenetic tree view (newick format) that allows multiple sequence alignments to be shown together with the trees (fasta format) EvolView [3] an online tool for visualizing, annotating and managing phylogenetic trees IcyTree [4] Client-side Javascript SVG viewer for annotated rooted trees. Also supports phylogenetic networks

Template expansion depth limit. When a template is used it adds to the expansion depth, once for the template expansion and once for parameter expansion. As a result, template calls can only be nested 20 deep. Because cladograms are built by nesting templates within each other this is a common problem on larger phylogenetic trees.
The extensible NEXUS file format is widely used in phylogenetics, evolutionary biology, and bioinformatics. It stores information about taxa, morphological character states, DNA and protein sequence alignments, distances, and phylogenetic trees. [1]
