McMinnville is located at (35.686708, -85.779309), [7] approximately 35 miles (56 km) south of Cookeville and 70 miles (110 km) northwest of Chattanooga. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 10.0 square miles (26 km 2), all land.

A Continental Congressman of the Congress of the Confederation and the Constitutional Convention where he represented North Carolina, Blount then became governor of the Southwest Territory, led Tennessee to statehood, and later served in the US Senate.
The Confederate monument [7] next to the county courthouse is dedicated in the memory of the men who served and died in the 16th and lists their names. Men from Warren County and upper Cumberland area joined the 16th TN Infantry Regiment, among others. Their flag is on display at the Texas 'Civil War' Museum in Fort Worth TX. [8]
McMinn County was created in 1819 from Indian lands and was named in honor of Joseph McMinn (1758–1824). [1] McMinn was a militia commander during the Revolutionary War, a member of the territorial legislature, speaker of the state senate, and eventually governor of the state of Tennessee.
