Mammy's Cupboard (founded 1940) [1] is a roadside restaurant built in the shape of a mammy archetype, [1] located on US Highway 61 south of Natchez, Mississippi. Natchez (/ ˈ n æ tʃ ɪ z / NATCH-iz) is the only city in and the county seat of Adams County, Mississippi, United States.The population was 14,520 at the 2020 census. As a Greek Revival mansion it is a contributing property to the Natchez On Top of the Hill Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. [1] Magnolia Hall was built by Thomas Henderson, a wealthy merchant, planter and cotton broker. The home is one of the finest examples in Natchez of the Greek Revival style. [2]
Melrose, a Greek Revival-style mansion, is one of three properties to see at the Natchez National Historical Park. The historic site is large, spanning more than 80 acres.
The community was established at the crossroads of two popular travel routes: the north–south Jackson's Military Road, and the east–west Natchez to Fort St. Stephens Wagon Road. An inn was built, and in 1870, L.J. Davis built a store and hung a coffee pot over his door, advertising "the best hot coffee around".
Roxie is located in western Franklin County. U.S. Routes 84 and 98 pass through the town, leading east 11 miles (18 km) to Meadville, the county seat, and west 22 miles (35 km) to Natchez.
Clifton Heights Historic District is located at an elevation more than 200 feet above the Mississippi River.The district is split up from the river by steep bluffs, the jagged edges of which the historic district's western boundary of the western side is formed, and by the low-lying lands underneath the bluffs from which the river bank is formed.
