Pointe-aux-Chenes Wildlife Management Area, also referred to as the Pointe-aux-Chenes WMA (French: Pointe Au Chien), is a 33,488 acres (13,552 ha) protected area located in Terrebonne and Lafourche Parish, Louisiana, that is owned and managed by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF).
The area has a long-standing reputation as one of America's best fishing spots with access to over 300 species of fish. [7] At one time, the park's fishing pier was especially popular, but it was destroyed in 2005 by Hurricane Katrina and had to be repaired. [8] [9] An observation tower provides fine views of the surrounding coastal scenery.
The 185-acre (0.75 km 2) park, set against a backdrop of coastal marsh, contains a half-mile stretch of man-made beach which contains picnic sites, a fishing pavilion and sailboat launch. Also, there are 6 cabins on the park grounds which may be reserved by guests.
