The Association of Secondary Teachers, Ireland (ASTI) is a trade union for secondary school teachers in Ireland. [3] It is a member of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions . The union represents 18,500 teachers in schools attended by 80% of all second-level students.
First opened in 2004, ASTI is a collaboration between Alameda Unified School District (AUSD) and the College of Alameda. ASTI was planned and conceived as a small high school providing a college preparatory curriculum to students living in the San Francisco Bay Area. Students earn two years of college credit during their junior and senior years.
They are published by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), a nonprofit membership association for educators focused on educational technology. They include the ISTE Standards for Students, which list skills and attitudes expected of students. [2]
The union was founded in 1930 as the Vocational Educational Officers' Organisation, and it joined the Irish Trades Union Congress the following year. In 1955, it renamed itself as the Vocational Teachers' Association, and then in 1973 it became the "Teachers' Union of Ireland".
